This work uses both natural and human-made items (mussel shells, quilt batting) to represent an aerial view of humpback whales creating a spiral of air bubbles, also known as a bubble net. Whales work as a team to blow air bubbles to corral prey, like small fish and krill. Humpback numbers are rising and this cooperative method of using air to create a ‘net’ is one way whales survive, and thrive, as fish stocks recede.
