This artwork is a collaboration between six artists, Linda Kirstein, Linda Simrose, Linda Anderson, Elaine Hughes, Catherine Mottashed, and Bernadette Harding. The inspiration is a whimsical photograph by Linda Kirstein of umbrellas hung in the courtyard of a restaurant in Bucerias Mexico. The umbrellas protected waiting customers from the heat of the sun, but when it rained, water cascaded onto unwitting customers below! Air is an intangible element, we breathe it, but we tend to experience it from the sky above us, as sunshine, moonlight, wind, and precipitation. Our Paraguas de Bucerias are an example of air made tangible in a colorful way.
