Marian Thompson

Marian Thompson is a self-taught artist originally from Nicaragua, now based in Canada since 2018. Artistic expression has been a part of Marian’s life since birth, with a natural inclination toward crafting and creating. With no formal training, Marian’s artistic journey has been shaped by observation, hands-on experimentation, and a deep love for working with a variety of materials, including paper, yarn, clay, and digital media.

Marian’s work is driven by personal experiences and emotions, often using art as a way to express feelings of anxiety, depression, and the everyday complexities of life. The themes and mediums explored in her creations are ever-evolving, influenced by shifting moods and inspiration from dreams, daily life, and the works of others. While Marian occasionally experiences artist block, she continues to experiment with new forms of expression, including a small digital art project on Instagram, where she’s started creating cartoons.

Although Marian has not participated in exhibitions or received awards, her passion for creating is unwavering. The focus is on the act of creation itself, with a desire to share the beauty and authenticity of her emotional journey through art, regardless of recognition.

Statement

I am a multi-disciplinary artist working with a variety of mediums, including drawings, paintings, photography, origami, and digital art. My work often serves as an emotional outlet, reflecting feelings like anxiety, depression, and the ups and downs of daily life. The themes I explore are shaped by my moods, personal experiences, and the inspiration I find in the world around me—whether it’s through dreams, interactions with others, or the work of fellow artists.

I use a mix of materials such as paper, recycled items, yarn, clay, and paint to create pieces that feel raw and authentic. For me, the process of creating is just as important as the outcome. I don’t focus on how others will interpret my work; it’s about expressing what I feel in that moment. While I hope others enjoy my art, the act of creation is primarily for myself, a way to communicate my reality and emotions.

Ultimately, my art is about self-expression—raw, personal, and unfiltered.
